Rabbi Ephraim Zalman Margaliot of Brody (1761-1828) was one of the greatest Later Authorities, author of the Shu”t Beit Ephraim, Mateh Ephraim, Yad Ephraim , Shaar Ephraim , Rosh Ephraim and more. He was both wealthy and scholarly, as such he refused to accept an official rabbinical position. He was one of the leading adjudicators and responders of his generation. He was a close associate of the leading disciples of the Maggid of Mezeritch and approbated many Chassidic books. He even eulogized Rabbi Menachem Nachum of Chernobyl.
