The rabbi is adorned with a beard and side locks, and is wearing a hat; the rebbetzin is wearing a traditional coif. Rabbi Yisrael HaLevi Piron served for 45 years as rabbi in Chervona (Червоне) near Berdichev, Russia. Rabbi Piron was famous for his work on Chamishah Chumshei Torah according to Name combinations. The photographs were prepared by his son at Photo Hollywood in Tel Aviv. Rabbi Yisrael Piron (1856-1928) was born in Chervona to his father Rabbi Mordechai, rabbi of the city. He married the daughter of Rabbi Baruch Cherkes of Zhitomir. He succeeded his father after the latter’s passing, a position he held until the day he passed away.
