* Noga Esh L’Tziyon by Avraham HaLevi Shmeltzstein. “Dedicated to the ideal of settling the Land of Israel, shining with a spark of fire for the Zionist path moving forward.” Warsaw, 1899. 96 pages [last two pages lacking].
* HaTziyonut MiNekudat Hashkafat HaDat by Rabbi Yehudah Leib Don Yichya. Vilna, 1901. 32, [1] pages. Polemic work about support for the Zionist movement, with a responsum to the Admo”r of Lubavitch (the Rasha”b) who opposed Zionism. Although the author had already distanced himself from Chassidism, he still had a trace of awe in him and he wrote anonymously. In the second part of the composition, called Miluim , he wrote “by Ben-Tziyon Wilner,” while the author was actually Don Yichya. He also mentions the Admor of Lubavitch – but not fully, as ‘The Admo”r of L-tch.’ About Miluim , refer to Y. L. HaKohen Fischmann, Sinai , 1942, pp. 145-150.
Rabbi Yehudah Leib Don Yichya [1869-1942] was born in the suburb of Vitebsk, to a rabbinical family of Lubavitch rabbis, and studied under Rabbi Chaim of Brisk – his primary rabbi. He served as rabbi of Chernigov and Shklov. He ascended to the Land of Israel in 1936, and passed away there.
