Portrait of the Gaon Rabbi Modechai Bennet. Printed by the Jewish Museum of Prague. Prague, circa 1910.
[1] postcard. 14.5 x 9.5 cm.
Impressive painting with non-Hebrew writing under which is written in Hebrew: “Image of the Rabbi the Great Gaon Mordechai Bennet, Head of the Beit Din of Bohemia, author of ‘Biur Mordechai.’ ”
Rabbi Mordechai Bennet (1753 – 1829) was a posek, a great sage of his generation, an outstanding individual, connected to the monarchy, a rabbi in Londenberg, Shossberg, and Nikolsberg. He participated in a delegation to the Kaiser together with Rabbi Kopel Teben regarding the edict to draft Jews to the military.
Very fine condition.
