Background: In 1938, two young men travelled from Brisk to Switzerland, to escape the Polish military draft. These two young men, who were saved by this journey, later became leaders of the generation and influenced the rescue of entire post-Holocaust Torah world – Rabbi Moshe Soloveitchik in the city of Zurich, who led the entire Torah world of Europe, and Rabbi Aharon Leib Steinman, the leader of the Torah world in the Land of Israel to this day. These letters were sent together to the two boys from their families who remained in Brisk.
The letter to Rabbi Moshe Soloveitchik was written by his father Rabbi Yisrael Gershon Soloveitchik, the eldest son of Rabbi Chaim of Brisk. He was known as a righteous man, and Rabbi Aharon Leib Steinman said regarding him that he had clear memories of the Beit HaLevi, and he heard from him stories about him. Material about him is enclosed. Rebbetzin Miriam Soloveitchik also wrote a letter on the postcard. Rabbi Moshe is the sole scion of his father’s house, who were all murdered in the Holocaust.
Rabbi Aharon Leib Steinman’s father wrote a letter to his son, “To my dear son Aharon Leib, ” on the bottom section.
