Pri Megadim on Shulchan Aruch Yoreh Deah by Rabbi Yosef Teomim. Glosses and signatures in Rabbi Dov Ber Oppenheim of Eibshitz’s handwriting. Owner’s signature: Ber Oppenheim of Dareznitz. There are close to 40 mostly lengthy scholarly glosses in his handwriting among the book’s leaves. Additional owners’ signatures, also from members of the Oppenheim family, apparently including by his son, Rabbi Chaim Oppenheim, who was a rabbi in Teheran. Rabbi Dov Ber Oppenheim [1791-1860] was the son of Rabbi Chaim Oppenheim, rabbi of Dareznitz. After his father’s passing, he succeeded him in the Dareznitz rabbinate. He was appointed by Rabbi Mordechai Bennet as rabbi of Eibshitz in 1829. 16 (!) of the responsa in Shu”t Chatam Sofer were addressed to him. The Chatam Sofer writes about him: “Exalted in his wisdom of our holy Torah, great sage in leading Hash-m’s nation.” His son Rabbi Ber was the primary disciple of Rabbi Baruch Frankel Teomim, author of Baruch Ta’am, as well as having studied under the Chatam Sofer. Some of the responsa he authored were printed in the book Mei Be’er by his uncle who shared his name, Rabbi Ber Oppenheim. 4, 149 leaves, 34 cm. Fine condition. Aging stains.
