In his letter, R’ Isser Zalman emphasizes his family connection, as Rabbi Epstein was his brother-in-law. His request is that since R’ Meir was left with no source of livelihood, and his opinion is that he could make a living as a lawyer or something similar, he requests that permission be obtained from his relative Mr. Salant, who was the vice principal of the Mandatory law school, to accept him as a full-fledged student. In the first year, he would take the government matriculation exams, and the following year, enter law school.
