Mishneh Torah L’Rambam with commentaries, section one and two. Sefer Mada, Ahavah, and Zmanim. Vienna, [1835]. Glosses by Rabbi Shaul Brach, noted rabbi of Kosice.
Prominent edition of the Mishneh Torah L’Rambam with the approbation of the Chatam Sofer. This copy does not include the Kovetz Al Yad HaChazakah, but does contain the leaves with sketches.
About fifteen glosses in the hand of Rabbi Shaul Brach are scattered along the leaves of the book. Some of the glosses are corrections and some are lengthy scholarly comments. At the beginning of Zmanim there is a lengthy, signed comment on the words of the Lechem Mishneh.
Rabbi Shaul Brach (1875-1940) was a prominent rabbi of his time. He was rabbi in Kosice and other Hungarian communities. Although he maintained “nusach Ashkenaz” he was close to the Admors of Sighet, Sanz, and Belz. He was even the chassidic Rosh Yeshivah in Kroli after Rabbi Yoel Teitelbaum, Admor of Satmar, left. He authored Mishmeret Elazar, Drushim, Liba Bai, Sugyot HaShas, Shaul Shaul, Avot al Banim, and more.
Half-leather binding. Other than light tears on the title page, the book is in very fine condition.
