Tractate Avot with the Magen Avraham commentary and an English translation by Rabbi Berachiah Meirowitz “rabbi of the Orthodox community in Kansas City.” Chicago, 1895. Hebrew and English (mishnayot and commentary) on facing pages.
Beautiful and important preface at the beginning of the book, in which the author writes, inter alia , about his desire to unite the spirit of pure enlightenment and the spirit of pure faith. As such, he translated his book into English, so that “youth born in the United States, with a foot in each world – Orthodox and Reform, will also know how to magnify and glorify the G-dly Torah and its sages, and that pure haskalah is not an enemy of traditional faith …”
Handwritten dedication on the front flyleaf, dated 1895.
