“May Hashem help me bless them (the etrogim) as is befitting”
Sacred letter from the Adm”or Rabbi Shlomo David Yehoshua Weinberg of Slonim, author of Zikaron Kodesh , to his faithful follower, the Chassid Rabbi Shemayah Luria of Tiberias, to speak to the leaders of Agudat Yisrael about arranging an aliyah permit – a “certificate” for a person who requires it.
The Admo”r expresses himself with urgency: “I have already written to you and have not received a response … I would ask that as soon as you receive this …” you deal with it, “because the Agudah promised to send the request, and there has been no response … I do not know how to accomplish this, so hurry …”
The letter was written between Rosh HaShanah and Yom Kippur, and gives the gmar chatimah tovah blessing, and at the end of the letter, he writes, in the spirit of the Yamim Nora’im, “May Hashem help us … to seek Him out while He is near.”
At the beginning of the letter, the Admo”r discusses the etrogim sent to him from Tiberias, and writes “I received the etrogim that were sent, and Baruch Hashem they are beautiful and good, and may Hashem help me bless them as is befitting. Thank you for your trouble.”
