Letter with a request for assistance towards the beginning of the Holocaust, from the Rebbe Rabbi Chaim Meir Yechiel Hororwitz of Reinzov-Melitz-Dzikov sent to the leaders of the Ezrat Torah organization in the United States, requesting their assistance.
He notes that for whoever does not know of his existence, he is “rabbi av beit din of Reinzov, near Raysha, in Lesser Poland, presently here in Selish, Hungary, a weak man with many expenses …”
Rabbi Hororwitz notes his lineage, “Please extend your full hand according to the honor of my ancestors, the sacred geonim , because it is very necessary for me …”
He also asks that they not send him a check, because he will not be able to redeem it, and not send cash, but give it to his friend. He signs his name under that of his great father-in-law, “Chaim Meir Yechiel Horowitz … son of the sacred gaon, av beit din of Sighet, author of Kedushat Yom Tov .
