“Its ways will be elucidated in general and in detail … which strikes and plays are great for the studious … by the sage Alfonse fun Brody.” Chess, also called the kings’ game, was considered the most intellectual game at the time, and the best minds were drawn to it – including rabbinic leaders – who would play it on occasion. This edition is an early one (a year later, in 1880, another edition was published).
Yosef Yehudah Leib Zassnitz [1837-1910] authored Achen Yesh Hash-m . He was a son-in-law of Rabbi Cheikel Luria of Birzh. He studied mathematics and astronomy. He published scientific and Talmudic articles. After his book Achen Yesh Hash-m was published, there was a quarrel against him by the charedim, who burned his books. He won a prize from the Polytechnic in Riga for solving a mathematical problem.
