Sefer Sefat Emet al HaSha”s – novellae on Seder Kodshim by the Admo”r Rabbi Yehudah Aryeh Leib Alter of Gur, published by Rabbi Yitzchak Meir Alter. With a foreword by the author’s sons and sons-in-law, and his in-law Rabbi Ya’akov Meir Biderman. Warsaw, 1925. First edition.
Important first edition of Sefat Emet – magnum opus of the leading Admo”r of his generation, known forevermore by the name of this book. It’s surreal how this sacred copy belonged to the leader of the mitnagdim of his generation, the gaon Rabbi Chaim Kanievsky, who left three owner’s stamps on it: “Chaim Kanievsky-Bnei Brak” and his signature (from his youth) “From the library of Chaim Kanievsky.”
The gaon Rabbi Chaim also authored, inter alia , a fundamental work on the laws of Kodshim called Derech Chochmah . It is entirely possible that this book by the Sefat Emet, that deals with exactly these topics, assisted the gaon Rabbi Chaim as he wrote Derech Chochmah .
Refer to the Hebrew catalog text for brief biographies of the author, the Admo”r Rabbi Yehudah Aryeh Leib Alter and the owner Rabbi Shmaryahu Yosef Chaim Kanievsky .
