“Sefer HaZikaron” [memorial book] of Yeshivat Torat Eretz Yisrael , founded by the Ridba”z, the Rabbi if Safed
At the beginning of this ledger is a very impressive title page with illustrated borders colored in bright red, green, blue and gold leaf, upon which is written “This book shall be memorial before the Lord, and in it shall be written the names of those who donated to the Talmud Torah and the Torat Eretz Yisrael Yeshiva which stand under the banner of the Gaon the Ridba’z [Rabbi Yaakov Dovid Wilovsky], waving here in all its glory in the holy city of Safed for all time.”
[165] leaves. On the first pages are letters and notes, the remaining pages are blank (the papers are imprinted with the formal letterhead of the yeshiva), bund in the original binding with a leather backing. Rare historical ledger. Moderate condition.
In the beginning of the ledger are letters calling for support of the yeshiva and its emissary, Rabbi Avraham Greenblat.
1. A letter signed by the Ridba’z and Rabbi Yosef Kanavitz, Rosh Yeshiva in Safed.
2. A letter from the gabbai of the yeshiva and Talmud Torah signed by: Rabbi Naftali Chanalis, a descendant of the Besh’t, Rabbi Yosef Rabinowitz and Rabbi Yehuda Leib Sokolovsky.
3. Gabbais and heads of Kollels in Safed with their signatures and seals of the Kollels.
4. A letter from HaChacham Bashi of Kusht (Istanbul), Rabbi Chayim Nachum – handwritten with his signature.
