Sefer Shaarei Chaim of the Gaon Rabbi Chaim Sofer, First Edition, Munkatsch, (1869), on the title page of the book is the author’s signature. 43, [1] leaf. C. 21.5 sq. cm. 14 cm. This volume concerns the Torah obligation to protest against those that rebel against the word of Hashem, the severity of transgressing Shabbat and a sermon against two doctors from Munkatsch who publicly transgressed Shabbat. At the end of the book is a handwritten list of books from the Beit Midrash in Shenstchov with signatures. Additional signatures and unidentifiable notes. Rabbi Chaim Sofer (1822-1886) one of the greatest students of the Chatam Sofer and one of the leaders of Hungarian Jewry in his generation, a Gaon and Tzadik, a forceful fighter of the Maskilim and one of the important Respondents (Meshivim) in Hungary in his time. He was born in Pressburg and was circumcised on Yom Kippur by his Rabbi, the Chatam Sofer. At the age of eleven he entered the Yeshiva of the Chatam Sofer and until his death, student and teacher were very close. Binding coming apart, part of the leaves are loose. In good condition.
