Background: Rabbi Yitzchak Tapiya was the Av Beit Din of the Portuguese community in Tunis. He was a sage, proficient in Torah and worldly affairs. His nephew, Rabbi Yitzchak Bonan, author of Ohel Yesharim and Shu”t Di Hashiv (Leghorn, 1857) profusely extols his personality [refer to Od Malchei Tarshish, p. 179].
