Large and impressive Shiviti poster with a LaMenatzeach menorah and various verses, superbly handcrafted, with a floral frame in many colors. Beautiful scribal script. Afghanistan, 1859. Inscription around the menorah: “The tiny young writer Yitzchak Cohen son of the honorable dayan … son of … the dayan , the complete and faithful sage, David, son of … Avraham. This menorah was written and signed on Thursday, the 18th of Tishrei, [1859].” One of the items that gives this Shiviti poster its special character is that the outer frame is not painted as usual, but it is made of a type of powdered silver glued to the sheet. Several passages were made separately on separate papers and pasted on the original on the large sheet to give it a beautiful, deep look. It is very rare to find such elegant works! The poster is placed in a frame under glass; it has not been examined outside the frame. Size: 49×69 cm. Including the frame: 77×57 cm. Moderate-fine condition. Tears and wear, aging stains and ink fading.
