Unique Features: Glosses and corrections handwritten by the author. The author’s introduction clarifies the circumstances around the time that the book was written and printed. It seems that it was printed intermittently and in a number of locations, which would explain the non-sequential pagination. Gershom Scholem writes that this work is very rare and it was only through much effort on his part that he found a complete copy in 1958.
Admor Aharon Roth [1894-1497] was the founder of the Shomrei Emunim chassidut. He was known as “Reb Ahrele,” and, therefore, members of the Yishuv HaYashan in Jerusalem are still called “Rebbe Aharelech.” He was born in Ungvar, where his father was a butcher. He founded the chassidic dynasty by himself, a very rare phenomenon. He was an ascetic who did not partake in the pleasures of this world and demanded that his followers live modest lives, devoid of physical pleasures. He moved to the Land of Israel c. 1928. In 1931-1932, he visited Satmar and printed his Shulchan HaTahor . He authored many other works, including Shomer Emunim and Teharat HaKodesh.
Condition: Moderate. Tear along the width of a number of pages, without loss. Worn, detached binding.
