Shomer HaBrit – schedule for Kabbalistic study on the night preceding a ritual circumcision, compiled by Jerusalem Kabbalists, “an excellent protection for the baby …” Printed in Amsterdam in 1719. Rabbi Shlomo Eilin’s approbation appears at the beginning of the book, and at its end, an approbation by Rabbi Avraham Bar Yuda [Berlin] of Amsterdam [אמטטרדם [!]], Ashkenazic [אשכנסים [!]] community, which was received after the printing began.
After the schedule of tikkunim , the service for the ritual circumcision and its blessings are printed, along with Birkat HaMazon LaMohel with texts from Ashkenaz and Poland. There is also the text of hatarat nedarim with an important handwritten comment next to it – “Why is this here – it must be that it is the printer’s stupidity [!!], and not related to sons dying due to vow-related transgressions, as this is unrelated…”
Early and very important.
