Shu”t Chavat Yair by Rabbi Shimon Yair Bacharach. Lemberg, 1894. Handwritten signature and stamps of the Admo”r Rabbi Betzalel Yair of Alexander. (The Admo”r’s stamps also appear on additional leaves.) The Admo”r Rabbi Betzalel Yair of Alexander [1865-1935] was the son of the founder of the Alexander dynasty, Rabbi Yechiel Danziger, son of the holy rabbi Shraga Feivel of Gritza. He was beloved and admired by his great father. After his father’s passing, the Chassidim clung to him, but he refused to receive them as Admo”r, and he turned for guidance to his holy brother, the author of Yismach Yisrael. After the passing of the Yismach Yisrael, he also refused to receive Chassidim and he clung to his brother, the author of Tiferet Shmuel. After the end of the war, he stayed in Lodz, where he led a small independent study hall and served as Admo”r. He would deliver his Torah thoughts from his brother’s book, Yismach Yisrael. After his passing, he was succeeded by his son Rabbi Avraham Yehudah, who was murdered in the Chełmno camp on Rosh HaShanah 1942. After the Holocaust, the remnants of the Chassidim appointed his son-in-law/nephew Rabbi Yehudah Moshe Tyberg as Admo”r of Alexander. 140 leaves. 31 cm. Very fine condition.
