Shu”t HaRashb”a , Part I. Vienna, 1812. Personal copy of the gaon Rabbi David Tzvi (Hersh) Ehrenfeld, beloved disciple of the Chatam Sofer, whose love and admiration for his disciple was such that he gave his firstborn daughter, Hindel, to him in marriage. Incomplete copy.
Various interesting owner’s inscriptions on the flyleaves, which tell of the book’s history. Owner’s notation at the top of the leaf: “Belongs to … Rabbi David Tzvi Ehrenfeld.” Below that is an additional, lengthy rabbinic owner’s signature, not well deciphered, “The youth Zelig Pinchas son of …” and another owner’s notation: “Yechiel Michel Tukachinsky – bought from R’ Meir Breslauer, 1904.” On the back flyleaf, there is an additional lengthy notation attesting that the book belonged to the gaon Rabbi David Tzvi Ehrenfeld.
The book is adorned with an important approbation and rare blessing from Mahara”m Bennet, who writes: “I will also purchase three books at the designated price … and the listener will be blessed both coming and going like the sun rising at full strength … the small one, Mordechai Bennet.”
