First edition of responsa from a prominent Safed sage of the city’s golden era, the era of the “Beit Yosef.” The friends Rabbi di Trani and Rabbi Yosef Karo both received rabbinic ordination from Rabbi Yaakov Berav. The book opens with introductions by the author’s sons, Rabbi Shlomo and Yosef di Trani (Mahari”t).
Unique Features: The title page bears an owner’s inscription by Rabbi Yitzchak Ardit and two glosses in the book by him or his son. Rabbi Yitzchak Ardit was an Izmir sage who corresponded with the Chid”a and held back-and-forth in-depth discussions with him on a number of subjects. The Chid”a had a strong affection for him and greatly respected him, though he was younger than him. In one location, the Chid”a wrote a question posed by Rabbi Yitzchak Ardit along with profuse praises. He wrote Yakar HaErech on Tractate Erchin (Salonika, 1823), the most comprehensive work on Tractate Erchin.
