Ten dollar bill given to Rabbi Yosef Moshe Sofer by the Admor, the “Divrei Yoel,” of Satmar, a few months before his passing. Along with a receipt written and signed by the recipient stating that this was given to him “by the holy hands of the Admor … of Satmar … author of Divrei Yoel … when a kvittel was given.”
Rabbi Yosef Moshe Sofer was a rabbi in Jerusalem who compiled and published the book Mara D’Ara Yisrael about Rabbi Yosef Chaim Sonnenfeld. He was a rabbi in the Eidah HaCharedit in Jerusalem and was very close to Satmar Chassidut. Before the publication of his work, the author corresponded with the Satmar Admor, and the Admor published his opinion and his appeal to support the publication of the work. This payment was apparently for the book. This lot includes two official letters signed by Rabbi Yosef Ashkenazi, the Admor of Satmar’s gabbai for dozens of years, in which he notifies him about payment of $500 towards support of its publication.
