Letter sent by the gaon Rabbi Chaim Michael Dov Weissmandl ztz”l, a leading rescue activist during the Holocaust and one of the developers of the skipping method in the Torah, to Rabbi Yeshayah HaLevi Horowitz, rabbi of Winnipeg and Western Canada, expressing gratitude and blessing him for helping his yeshivah, “Yeshivat Nitra” which he founded in Mount Kisco, NY.
The yeshivah’s rabbis traveled to Canada to collect funds with which to found the yeshivah, which was just at its inception. Rabbi Horowitz came to their assistance. From the letter, it sounds like it was exceptional. Rabbi Weissmandl doubles and even triples his blessing, “with a blessing of much appreciation for all the good done for our study hall, as related by the rabbis when they returned from there, for all the trouble taken and the help given to them and to us.”
