Tziyur HaBayit D’Yechezkel, from Rabbi Eliyahu of Vilna [Grodno 1820]. A printed drawing.
[1] paper leaf. 43*36cm. A large sketch of the appearance of the Temple which was originally appended to a set of Prophets and Writings with the commentary of the Vilna Gaon, published in Grodno in 1820. In the upper left hand corner the artist’s name is printed: Dov Ber son of Yosef Yuspa, of Vilna.
This rare leaf is not found in most of the copies of the Bible. In the Hebrew Bibliography is written that in the British Library is a copy with the map, and in Otzar Sifrei HaGra of Yeshayahu Vinograd he brings a facsimile of that copy (page 291), refer to book no. 24.
It is well-known that Jews in Eastern Europe would hang drawings of the Temple in their houses and in the Succah next to maps of the Land of Israel, this explains their rarity.
Folding signs. Slight stains and tears. Moderate condition.
