“For the bride’s wedding day … I hereby honor all participants at this celebration, who came from near and far, with this framed gift … It will be a segulah for all good things, spiritual and physical” (The Rayya”tz’s letter before us)
The “gift” letter distributed by the Rebbe the Rayya”tz to participants at his celebration – the marriage of his daughter, Rebbetzin Chaya Mushka, to the successor to the dynasty, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson of Lubavitch. Regarding this letter’s historic and segulah value, refer to ‘The Original Invitation to the Rebbe’s Wedding’ – also offered for sale in this catalog.
We will mention that the famous Chaba”d minhag of distributing a “gift” at a wedding – is based on this letter before us distributed by the Rayya”tz at the Rebbe’s wedding, in which he wrote: “For good memories from my daughter the bride’s wedding day … I hereby honor all participants at this celebration who came from near and far, with this framed gift … it will be a segulah for all good things, spiritual and physical.”
The letter before us was originally accompanied by a “gift” (not included here) – a facsimile of a manuscript by the Alter Rebbe that deals with dispute among Chassidim and their opponents in Vilna. On the second page of the letter before us, the Rayya”tz elucidates the historic context of the letter.
