Sefer Bo Tov L’Yisrael , the laws of ritual slaughter in rhyme with an elucidation and responsa, by Rabbi Eliyahu Chayun. Jerusalem, Beck Press. 1869. Only edition. Uncommon sefer .
Composition on the halachahs of shechitah and treifah , written in rhyme with an extensive commentary. The title page indicates that the rhyme was composed by Mahara”sh ibn Masmeron, but this is unclear. Rabbi Eliyahu Chayun wrote the work, and he passed away when he was only 33 years old. The author requested of his uncle, Chacham Nissim Ezra Chayun, to publish this sefer . A lengthy introduction by the publisher appears at the beginning of the sefer , with a eulogy for the author.
Pedigree copy: Beautiful signed dedication on the title page from the author’s uncle, the gaon Rabbi Nissim Ezra Chayun, one of the leading sages of Jerusalem, who published this sefer after the author’s passing. Many handwritten glosses and revisions appear on the leaves of the sefer , apparently also by Rabbi Nissim Ezra Chayun. Additional signatures: Rabbi Yitzchak Ya’akov Wachfogel of Jerusalem.
Refer to the Hebrew catalog text for a brief biography of the gaon Rabbi Nissim Ezra Chayun .
