Refer to the Hebrew catalog text for a brief biography of
Rabbi Yitzchak Meir ben Menachem .
In these letters, we learn about Rabbi Yechiel Michel Tukachinsky’s recommendation to bring two of the city’s
geonim to Jerusalem – Rabbi Ya’akov Aryeh Neiman and Rabbi Ze’ev Edelman, to serve as Torah teachers at Etz Chaim. Rabbi Tukachinsky wrote to R’ Yitzchak Meir: 1) Are they indeed suitable? 2. Do they agree? R’ Yitzchak Meir wrote that after he spoke to Rabbi Edelman at length, he saw that “he is an expert scholar and appears to be totally devoted to anything he takes upon himself. It also seems that he explains himself well. He speaks clearly, and already has experience in the field in Poland, where he was successful in his role … and it must also be taken into account that he is a very spiritual person, and has the power to influence students with his lofty personality.” Later on he discusses the material aspect and maintaining an apartment for them.
