Tzedakah Box – the Jewish hospital “De Joodsche Invalide” in Amsterdam, Holland, 1920s.
The Jewish hospital “De Joodsche Invalide” was established by Meir de Hund who was known as a socialist and cared deeply for the poor Jews of the Netherlands, as a response to the disabled and chronically ill, so that they would not have to be be given treif food in general hospitals.
Written on the lid of the box: “Gedenkt de verng” and on the main part, “De Joodsche Invalide.”
Moderate-fine condition.
