“My blessing to [you] and all that is [yours], a blessing to be inscribed and sealed for a good, sweet year, materially and spiritually …”
Letter full of wonderful blessings for a good and sweet year, signed by the Admo”r Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson of Lubavitch. Brooklyn, New York, during the Days of
Selichot , “150 years since the passing of the Alter Rebbe” [1962]. The Rebbe added two words in his own hand at the end of the letter.
On the dateline, as was the Rebbe’s custom, he wrote “Yemei HaSelichot” – the days of mercy, when the King is in the field and prayers and blessings are close to being fulfilled – as stated by the Alter Rebbe. The Rebbe emphasizes here that it is 150 years since the Alter Rebbe’s passing!
This segulah period strengthens the Rebbe’s wonderful blessings that appear later in this letter: “For the upcoming new year, may it be a blessed good year for us and the entire Jewish people, I hereby extend my blessing to [you] and all that is [yours], to be inscribed and sealed for the good, a good, sweet year materially and spiritually. With blessings, M. Schneerson.”
Careful examination of the Rebbe’s words demonstrate that in his few words he includes all essential blessings, in both the material and spiritual realms, to the recipient and his entire family, as what could be better or sweeter than “a good, sweet year, materially and spiritually”?
