Rabbi Shlomo Luria [Maharshal] (1510-1573) was one of the giants of halachic psak and commentary. He was known for his forceful opinions, which he issued even if they differed with the halachic decisions of earlier Torah giants. His “Yam shel Shlomo” is one of the most fundamental works on the Talmud.
