Manuscript – Seder Nashim and Seder Kedushah from the Ya”d HaChazakah series – Mishneh Torah by Rabbeinu Moshe Ben Maimon. [Yemen, 17th century.] It is rare to find complete sedarim from an early period. This manuscript has differences from the printed version! Yemenite manuscripts are known to have precise and reliable texts, and the renowned Frankel edition is based on them. An example is as follows: Chapter 1, halachah 2: In most prints, (including Frankel), it says “By intercourse and by contract – from the Torah; and by money – from the rabbis.” The Rav Kapach edition, which was proofread according to Yemenite manuscripts, reads “By money, by contract or by intercourse – all three are from the Torah.” This manuscript here contains yet another version: “By intercourse – from the Torah, and by money and by contract – from the Torah, and the explanations are from the rabbis”!! This text is not found in any edition or manuscript listed by the Friedberg Project – Ya”d HaRamba”m for textual differences in the Ramba”m. The text of this manuscript has not been examined to the extent it deserves, and undoubtedly, important halachic discoveries will be made. The two sedarim are bound together: Seder Nashim: [92] leaves, written on both sides. The last page is incomplete and was completed in 19th-20th century Yemenite script. Seder Kedushah: [44] leaves, all (except two) written on both sides. The first [3] pages are incomplete and were completed in 19th-20th century Yemenite script. 21.5 cm. Glosses on several leaves.
