Shtetl – large and elegant lithograph album by the artist Yissachar Ber Ryback. Published by Shveln, Berlin, 1923. Elegant and numbered bibliophilic edition, in the original fabric binding. The copy number is on the first leaf: 39 – handwritten, with the artist’s signature. Rare. Shtetl – Mein Churber Heim – A Gedechenish [ Shtetl , My Destroyed Home – Remembrance ], book in the format of an album with twenty-eight lithographs [title page and 27 paintings] depicting Jewish life in the shtetls of Ukraine before they were destroyed in pogroms after WWI. The paintings were done by Ryback in 1917 at his home in Ukraine as a memorial to a town that was completely destroyed by the Russians. His father was killed in one of the pograms.
