Owner signature on title page of Rabbi Dov Ber of Lesle, also known as Philipstal, av”d of Birnbaum and close disciple of Rabbi Yaakov of Lissa. He was the rabbi of Posen and was famed as the rabbi of Birnbaum. He was a friend of Rabbi Akiva Eiger, who gave an approbation to his work and called him “My soul friend.” He authored the Nachlei Dvash [Berlin, 1832] and the booklet Kavod Melachim [Berlin, 1854]. Biographical information about this personality is included with the lot.
As known, the traditional Orthodox distanced themselves from this “Biur.” However, here is a copy with the clear signature of a rabbi who was not a maskil.
Simple, blemished binding. Minimal stains. The work is in very fine condition.
