A historical letter from Rabbi Natan Spanier, grandfather of Chaim, the husband of the famous authoress Gluckel of Hameln, on matters of trade. Stadthagen, 1626.
[1] white high-quality paper leaf. 33×20 cm. Ancient German. Signed autograph. On the rear of the leaf is the addressee’s address and the date. The letter deals with a loan of the sum of 300 Thaler, which the writer gave to one of the rulers of Landsbach.
In her book Gluckel talks about the grandfather, Rabbi Natan Spanier, who was a righteous man and famous sage. He was the one of the first founders of the community of Altona, due to the close business ties which he had with the heads of the German princedoms.
