“I shall sing a song in honor of the Torah”
Personal book of Tehillim that belonged to Rabbi Raphael Baruch Toledano, av beit din of Meknes and the surrounding towns, and author of the familiar and sacred hymn “Ashorer Shirah LiChvod HaTorah.” Along the leaves of the book are approximately five owners’ signatures: “Rabbi Raphael Baruch Toledano S”T, Av Beit Din of Meknes”
Throughout the Tehillim are many usage marks, and on each and every leaf, the sacred gaon’s prayers and tears are evident. He was viewed by rabbinic leaders across the spectrum of communities and circles, from the Lithuanian Rabbi Shach through Chassidic Admo”rim, as a sacred ra’ava”d . They raised the banner of his sanctity and devotion to the purity of Moroccan immigrants who immigrated to Israel, lest they be destroyed among the freethinkers.
