Rabbi Moshe ben Chaviv (1654-1696) was a dayan, rosh yeshiva in Jerusalem, rabbi of Jerusalem and Rishon L’Tzion. His father was Rabbi Shlomo ben Chaviv. He was born in Salonika but moved to the Land of Israel at a young age. He was known as a genius with a sharp mind who was an expert in all sections of the Torah. He had a special expertise in the laws pertaining to marriage and releasing agunot, as indicated by his works, Get Pashut and Ezrat Nashim . His grandson, Rabbi Yaakov Culi, author of Yalkut Meam Loez , arranged his grandfather’s novellae and printed them.
