Lennon from the students of the Scots College Rome 8th Maj 1898” with a Hebrew addition: “To our great teacher in Torah, research and the wonders of science, R’ Lennon Peledato – accept this havdalah candle as an eternal remembrance from your students of 1898.”

Tefilin shel rosh per the custom of Rabbeinu Tam, Ar”i script. C. late 19th century.
Some of the פ’s were written in a unique, ancient style, by which the inside of the letter is double-wrapped internally, within the letter, hence this style letter is known as ‘wrapped letters.’
There is an ancient tradition for this style of writing, but over time, used of this style waned, and even the Chatam Sofer wrote that one should not write in this way. Yet it is known that Chassidic leaders – disciples of the Ba’al Shem Tov, would lay tefillin with passages that contained wrapped letters.

The noticeable dynamic in Gershon Rennert’s works brought him to extremely varied areas of stylistic and aesthetic experiments, from figurative, symbolic painting to abstract, lyrical and expressionist.In the course of his career he put on some 65 sole exhibitions and participated in over 200 group exhibitions. Many photographs and diagrams of well known and less well known wooden synagogues in the area of Poland, the Ukraine and Russia, including the small villages in these areas. Synagogues made of wood were common mainly in these European countries and most of them were built only by Jews after they succeeded, with difficulty, to acquire building permission from the authorities. Most of them were burned by the Nazis during the Second World War. A dedication from 1973. Original leather cover, a slight tear on the rear side, fine condition.

Women bathing on the seashore. Charcoal on paper, signed Isaac Israels (1865-1934). Isaac Lazarus Israels, a Dutch Jewish artist, the son of the artist Yosef Israels. Learned between the years 1878-1880 in the Royal Academy of Art in the Hague, and from a young age was known to be extremely talented. In contrast with his father, there were no Jewish motifs in his pictures. In 1928 he received a gold medal in the art competition of the Amsterdam Olympics in the painting category. He is still considered to be an important and influential artist among the European impressionist painters of the beginning of the 20th century. Damage to the frame, very slight lack in the corner of the picture, very fine condition.

One of the first books of its type written in Dutch on the topic of Jewish art, Judaica, Jewish festivals, symbols and more. Accompanied by pictures from the famous illustrations of Rembrandt, Moritz Oppenheim, Isidor Kaufmann and more. The author was murdered in the Holocaust. Original cover. Fine condition.
