A long letter by Rabbi Shlomo HaCohen of Vilna author of responsa Binyan Shlomo and glosses Cheshek Shlomo, to his friend Rabbi Chaim Berlin, the son of the Netziv of Volozhin.
Specifications: [6] pages. 4 pages sized 18×23 cm, and another 2 pages 11×16 cm. Large and clear writing.
Unique Features: Fascinating content. At the beginning of the letter he writes the reason for the congregation saying “Yashar Koach” to the priests, even though they are obligated to bless. In the middle he relates things which the Netziv heard from his father, in the name of his father-in-law’s father Rabbi Chaim of Volozhin, that we can learn from the words of the Rambam and the Shulchan Aruch in ways which they may not have intended, as they were written with ruach hakodesh.
Background: Rabbi Shlomo HaGadol, author of the responsa Atzei Brushim, Binyan Shlomo and Cheshek Shlomo (1828-1906). A disciple of his brother Rabbi Bezalel HaCohen and Rabbi Yaakov Barit of Vilna.He served as a Dayan in Vilna from 1865. The leading Rabbis of the generation sent him halachic questions and requested approbations, including the Chafetz Chaim, who asked for his approbation for his book the Mishnah Berurah.
Condition: Fine. A few tears with no lack. A few stains and creases.
