Beautiful letter of approbation for a ritual slaughterer for Haifah (in the Land of Israel!) entirely [8 lines] handwritten and signed in full by the sacred gaon Rabbi Menachem Mendel of Pabianice, may his blood be avenged, son of the Sefat Emet of Gur, one of Poland’s gedolim , whose influence was felt as far as the Land of Israel. Pabianice, 1935.
The letter is addressed to his relative, Rabbi Yudel Rosenstark in Haifah, about Rabbi Akiva Shu”b, with a recommendation to accept him as a shochet in Haifah. The Pabianicer rabbi writes in his approbation: “aside from his being an expert shochet , his sacred profession, I know him well from birth.” The rav of Pabianice continues, writing: “He [the shochet ] hopes to be accepted as a ritual slaughterer in your city, but only those in the know will recognize him and his essence …” (In 1935, Gur Chassidim already had a significant presence in Haifah. As a result of the Sefat Emet’s encouragement and blessing, Gur Chassidim ascended to the Land before the other Chassidim.)
