Rabbi Eliyahu Roisen was born in Lomza in 1899 and studied in yeshivah there. In the middle of WWI, he was drawn to “Breslov” Chassidut, traveled to Uman and became a close associate of Rabbi Avraham Chazan b”r Nachman, one of the leading transcribers of Breslov lore. When the Communist regime was declared, he devoted himself to raising the banner of Judaism. He and his friend R’ Levi Yitzchak Bender were caught in ‘illegal activity’ in the winter of 1936. Both were interrogated, tortured and sentenced to death. Only a miracle saved them from the claws of the evildoers, and they received permission to emigrate. He fled to the Land of Israel and settled in Jerusalem. He soon joined those early Chassidim who were devoted to Hashem, but they were unable to construct a synagogue for themselves.
R’ Eli’ Chaim dedicated himself wholeheartedly to establish a synagogue for them, and after tremendous efforts and fundraising abroad, he managed to construct the ‘shul’ on Salant Street (in Meah She’arim), and to found the Kehillat Ya’akov yeshivah and the Ohr Ne’elam kollel. He was also very active in rescuing Jews from Russia.
This file contains dozens of certificates, documents, and letters attesting to these many activities; his historic notations, many letters to R’ Yisrael Abba Rosenfeld, who was one of the major collectors for his activities, including the Mandatory ID certificate; certificates from his travels abroad, and more.
Rich file for the research of the founding of this Chassidut in the New Jerusalem.
Overall fine condition.
