He was the Chief Cantor in the 19th-20th century in the main Berlin community. The title page notes that all the melodies and music notes follow the traditional prayers of the large communities. The book was funded by an organization or committee of the Jewish communities in Germany, with much assistance from the Berlin, Breslau, Frankfurt A.M., Posen, Leipzig, Hanover, and Munich communities.
