Rabbi Natan Shapiro was a sage of his generation. His son Rabbi Itzchak Shapiro claimed this composition was not his father’s. In the preface to his father’s book “Imrei Shefer” [Lublin, 1597] the son writes that nonreligious people invented this commentary and credited it to his father in order to sell it. And indeed, the Va’ad Arba Arztot (Council of Four Lands) issued a prohibition upon selling this book. See Y. Halperin, The Notebook of the Council of Four Lands, Jerusalem, 1945, pages 488-491; M. Carmeli, Sefer V’Sayef, page 180.
