Includes fifty selected sermons given by the author, the renowned rabbi of the Sephardic community in Amsterdam. There is a detailed list of 500 sermons at the end of the book, from which these fifty were selected to be printed. In the following edition [Warsaw, 1902], two of the sermons were omitted due to censorship.

Rabbi Rephael Silberman b”r Mordechai, known as “Rabbi Rephael Dayan” [1839-1917] was born in Uman, Ukraine. He ascended with his parents to the Land of Israel in 1850 and studied at yeshivahs in Safed and under his father, who served as rabbi of Safed. In 1860, he was appointed a dayan and rabbinic instructor of the Ashkenazic community in Safed. After his father’s passing in 1872, he was appointed chief rabbi of the Ashkenazic community in Safed. He was known for his wisdom and Torah greatness. His grandson, Rabbi Avraham Leib Silberman, was orphaned of his father and raised and educated by his grandfather. He was appointed a dayan in Safed in 1909. After his grandfather’s passing in 1918, he was appointed rabbi of Safed.
