Sefer Cheshbon Katzer from the Peterburg rabbinical conference of the Rabbinical Assembly, by the Admo”r Rabbi Shalom DovBer Schneerson. St. Petersburg, 1910. Extraordinarily important compilation, hard-to-find.
Report from the rabbinical conference arranged by the Russian government with the participation of rabbis, Admo”rim and ” rabbinim mi’ta’am ” to deliberate many issues connected to Judaism in Russia. This is an organized report written by the Admo”r of Lubavitch, who was one of the leaders of the conference, and in fact the backbone of the conference. With an introduction from the Admo”r himself!
Heinrich Slausberg (a famous Jewish lawyer in Russia), who participated in the conference and often disagreed with the Rasha”b, writes in his memoirs: “The Lubavitcher Rebbe had a huge influence on the rabbis. Not at all elderly, he did not speak much … a seasoned politician. He was hard as a rock on issues pertaining to religious life. For him there was no dynamism and no shift in the rules of behavior in Judaism.” Rabbi Yitzchak Schneerson, who served as a ” rav mita’am ” in Chernigov and the conference secretary, later wrote about it in his memoirs: “At its head, the impressive figure of the Lubavitcher Rebbe rose above all with supernatural brilliance. He was the true leader, he set the tone, and he was the one who actually ran the assembly.” (Also refer to: Rabbeinu Meir Simchah Cohen ztz”l, Tel-Aviv 1967, pp. 150-152; Rabban shel Kol Bnei HaGolah , II, Jerusalem 2020, pp. 399-530; Toldot Chabad B’Peterburg , Kfar-Chabad 5771, pp. 75-90; Toldot Chabad B’Russia HaCzarit , Brooklyn 2010, pp. 296-301).
