Chessed L’Avraham. Kabala, by Rabbi Avraham Azulai. Slavuta [at the press of Rabbi Moshe Shapira]. [1794]. [6], 87, 1-34 [should say 36], [1] leaf [marked 88]. 21 cm. Thick paper. Sketches. Includes the “Breichat Avraham” and an elucidation of the maxims of Chazal, according to ‘nistar’ by Rabbi Chaim Vital. One of the first works printed by Rabbi Moshe Shapira. The title page does not note the printer. However, in his approbation, Rabbi Yaakov Shimshon, Rabbi of Slavuta and Shipitovka, writes about the ‘press that was established by my relation by marriage, the renowned rabbi, son of holy people….Rabbi Pinchas’ [Rabbi Pinchas of Korzec, whose son, Rabbi Moshe, established the press]. It’s commonly accepted that the name of the press was omitted because Rabbi Shapira did not yet have a printer’s license. Owner signatures on the title page, last leaf and flyleaf. Old, cardboard binding. Tear in the blank margins of the title page. Small worming holes in the blank margins of a number of leaves. Fine-very fine condition.
