Two printed pieces of cloth. From these they made cloth bags and filled them with earth from the Mount of Olives and from Rachel’s Tomb. The earth was sent to Jewish communities in the Diaspora, and was considered a holy segulah. It was customary to put it in the coffin of the departed, to save him from being decomposed by worms so that he would merit to arise at the resurrection of the dead. The earth form Rachel’s Tomb was also known to be a segulah for pregnancy.
