Medal issued by Italian Jewry to commemorate the victory over the Nazis and the survival of the Jewish people, 1945. Design: Italian sculptor Aurelio Mistruzzi.
Obverse: Lightning hitting an axe bearing a swastika and splitting it in two, stuck in a fallen tree, with a young tree in the background. Surrounding is a Latin inscription (quote from Seneca): “An avenging god closely follows the haughty.”
Reverse: Menorah with the inscription “Israel” in Hebrew, surrounded by the Latin inscription “Never suppressed.”
Circumference: 30 mm. Hanger.
