Series of correspondence between Rabbi Amram Blau and Ruth ben David, after their marriage. 18 handwritten leaves. Most were sent by Rabbi Blau to Ruth ben David, and some were sent from her to him. 1967-1967, various locations. Yiddish.
The correspondence discusses personal affairs along with communal subjects that related to the two of them – the claims of the rabbis of the Eidah HaCharedis and the perseuction that they underwent because of their marriage, the episode of Yossele Shumacher, institutions, words of encouragement and Torah thoughts, New Year’s greetings etc.
Ruth ben David married Rabbi Amram Blau in Elul, 1965, when he was 70 years old. His marriage to a convert – a former catholic – in her 40s, was sharply condemned by the Neturei Karta and the Eidah HaCharedit and they were excommunicated. Due to this opposition, they were forced to move to Jerusalem and live in Bnei Brak for a time. In addition to this episode, Ruth ben David was involved in the disappearance of Yossele Shumacher. She succeeded in smuggling him out of the country and hiding him for a while.
Some letters are written on aerograms and some on plain sheets of paper. Average size: 21×27 cm. Most have texts on both their sides.
