“Battle Leaf” for soldiers and commanders written on the 14th of Iyar 1967 – 25/5/1967 – about two weeks before the outbreak of the Six Day War.
This leaf was written by Brigade Commander Eliezer Amitai [Palmach Member and Commander of the Jerusalem Brigade during the Six Day War] to encourage the IDF soldiers and to threaten the Arab enemies: ” This time we have come to warn the enemy near us that they shouldn’t dare to move. We have come to remind him that if he opens with a terrorist act, his territory will turn into a battlefield. This time we remind the enemy that we want the – Kotel, Mt. Scopus, Rachel’s tomb and even Jericho – they are ours.” He then turns to the defenders of Jerusalem and fortifies them in face of the approaching battle. The upper section of the leaf features a picture of Jerusalem homes. The margins bear the signature of Commander Amitai.
